
Activities at Bungaree for residential guests include:
- Our audio tour is complimentary for guests and explores
the property's 170 years of history, visiting sites including the Station
Store, Homestead Gardens, Church and Woolshed.
- Children enjoy feeding the animals with us most mornings
- this takes about an hour and includes a wide range of pets, including sheep,
deer, kangaroos and chickens. Feeding time varies with the seasons so please
ask us.
- Feel free to wander and enjoy the surroundings - either
on foot or by bicycle. Please ask us for directions for walks.
- For those feeling energetic, we have a gym (with a
range of free weights and machines) and also a swimming pool which guests
are welcome to use in summer.
- In winter, bonfires are available by prior arrangement
for a small cost - perfect for toasting marshmellows, sipping port and star
gazing.
- Gas BBQs are available and we can also supply BBQ packs
(including salads and locally produced BBQ meats).
- We can also deliver 2 or 3 course meals to your cottage
by prior arrangement - ask us for the menu.
- For rainy days, we have a selection of board games
and DVDs available at the Station Store that you can borrow.
- Or simply relax, with some local wine, in front of
the fire!
Recommended local attractions and activities:
- There are a wide range of wineries to visit, including
Sevenhill Cellars (oldest vineyard in the Clare Valley), Mt Surmon (great
view, platters and art gallery), Knappstein (brewing beer on site as well),
Skillogallee (lunches and platters in a lovely setting) and Paulett Wines
(panoramic views, award winning aged Riesling). Most are located on scenic
drives with some great pubs and cafes along the way - ask us for a map.
- Visit some of the local galleries (including Ian Roberts'
Medika Gallery in Blyth, Murray Edwards' Gallery in Watervale and Scarlattis
Gallery at Mt Surmon Wines) and antique stores (Burra, Auburn and Mintaro).
- Explore the local markets for food, art and crafts.
There is usually one or more markets on each Saturday in the local area, in
Clare, Sevenhill, Burra or Riverton - just ask us.
- If you enjoy gardening, it's worth visiting Morella
Cottage Nursery (Watervale) and the Heritage Garden (Sevenhill).
- There's a great range of pubs, bakeries, cafes and
restaurants in the local area, including the Last Word Inn and Artisan's Table
in Clare and the Rising Sun Hotel at Auburn. Wild Saffron in Clare also does
fantastic coffee and has a range of gourmet produce for sale, while Mathies
Butchers stocks a range of local meats including saltbush mutton.
- Spend half a day at Mintaro - children will enjoy the
hedge maze, and Martindale Hall is well worth a visit, before stopping for
lunch, perhaps at Reilly's cellar door or the Magpie & Stump pub.
- Cycle or walk the Riesling Trail, stopping in at wineries
along the way for refreshments. Several local businesses hire a range of bikes
(including tandem bikes). Ask us for a brochure with a map and information
on the Riesling Trail.
- Spend a day in Burra - with the Heritage Passport you
can explore Burra's history, with its mines, dugout homes, jail and brewery.
As well as several conservation parks nearby, those who are feeling energetic
can hike along the Heyson and Mawson trails, perhaps climbing up Mt Bryan,
before recovering with a meal at one of Burra's great bakeries or restaurants.
- Visit the local conservation reserves and lookouts,
or go bushwalking or bike riding through Wirrabarra and Bundaleer Forests.
- Explore Mount Remarkable National Park in the lower
Flinders Ranges - visit the stunning Alligator Gorge or climb up Mt Remarkable.
The scenic drive also takes you through Laura (the home of Golden North Icecream),
Stone Hut (famous for its fantastic pies) and Melrose.
