Bungaree Homestead
The original homestead at Bungaree was a slab hut but this was replaced by a stone house which was cooler during the hot summer months. George and Bessie Hawker had 16 children and as the family increased in size, the house grew to accommodate them, constructed without professional builders or specific architectural plans. Built over 60 years, without a formal plan, the beautiful homestead is a monument to the tenacity of those early pioneers and the ability of the station staff. Today the homestead is still the family home for the 4th and 5th Hawker generations, George and Sal Hawker and their three children.
